Main Event
Thank you to our major sponsors, Tasmanian Government through
Events Tas, and Chess Kids, who have been very helpful in
supporting us at this tournament but also promoting chess
in schools throughout Tasmania.
Hutchins
Accommodation – Christ College and University of Tas
Mellissa for her coordination of accommodation, negotiation
with Hutchins, organised the canteen and an invaluable help
including heaps of running around.
Ross George – developing our website and writing his
own program to view the games, automated entry and accommodation
which will be a great foundation for when we run our next
major event.
Helpers – local Tasmanian chess players, mums and dads
of children and interstate visitors who have helped out with
the canteen, data entry and at the result desk.
Thank you to Graham, Nigel, Don and Tom for their daily support
over the two weeks and for looking after our Tasmanian players.
Thomas Hendrey for his daily grind of data entry most nights
we have finished by 7pm. 70% of games were entered.
Our officials– Roland and Charles. You don’t realise
what they do until they aren’t here. And we know now
from the two rest days what they do! We have valued their
experience and help and also the assistance of Scott Colliver
whose extra pair of hands has been appreciated.
And now we need to pause and think about what Kevin Bonham
has done. Not only handling enquiries, a main organiser, director
of play, but also our bulletin blagger. And so to Kevin –
We have been beguiled by Bonham’s bulletins, brandishing
bogus behests, little banality and always with bona FIDE.
Thank you everyone for participation in our social events
– BBQ, adult lightning, GM Ian Rogers simul, mayoral
reception – and the fun you have had together socialising
and staying up late! Just make sure you thank your parents
when you get home because 2 weeks is a big expense.
Thank you to Anton, James and Bobby for coming to Tasmania.
Now the most important - thank you to our players. Your conduct
has been excellent. And it’s been good to see you crying
sometimes. This shows you take your chess seriously and you
are determined. We adults know that you will learn to lose
with dignity and win with grace. Keep you interest in chess
and keep playing. We would like to see you playing in Australia
and OS. And remember to come to Tasmania.
