Will there be food available at the venue?
A canteen is provided at the venue for snack foods, fruit and drinks.

Perhaps. I think that potentially three more players will may emerge as IMs. Whether they become GMs is hard to know. (The trio from 1975 are Ian Rogers, Daryl Johansen and Murray Chandler).

Will players and families be able to find their way around the bustling metropolis of Hobart, home to approx 200, 000 residents of whom 0.1% play chess?
No. There are no maps of Hobart. Locals can see all the streets and they can remember the dirt tracks.

How will players from the big northern island fare with the changing climate, apples and no radio reception?
North Island players will seriously need jumpers and coats. You can buy many different varieties of apples and the Huon valley (20 mins by car) grows local apples. Radio reception – we do get ABC and JJJ.

What will it be like to play a Tasmanian chess player?
Hmm!

Will you win one of the 72 medals and 72 trophies on offer?
At this stage the field is very open – you have a chance.

Australian Junior Championships

The Tasmanian Chess Association proudly acknowledge the assistance of sponsors to host the 2010 Australian Junior Chess Championships.

Without the help of our major sponsors it would be impossible for a small state organisation like the TCA to host such an event.

This event is one of the most prestigious chess event ever staged in Tasmania and to date 115 interstate players have been attracted to the two weeks of competition with trophies and medals for 48 categories in various chess competitions and different age groups. Entries have certainly exceeded expectations.

The sponsorship from Chesskids and Tasmanian Government (through Events Tasmania) along with assistance of from the Hobart City Council, Ricoh Tasmania and Australian Chess Enterprises will ensure a successful event. Thank you to our sponsors.
